LOUDONVILLE — Weather conditions on Saturday are shaping up to be pristine -- if you’re an ice sculpture.
The 32 ice sculptures that are destined to line downtown Loudonville’s Main Street on Saturday will appreciate the 30-degree forecast.
So dress warm — the annual Mohican Winterfest, Jan. 13 to 15 — takes place rain or shine.
The ice sculptures serve as the main draw of the village’s annual festival, said Valerie Spreng, the event’s organizer and executive director of the Loudonville Chamber of Commerce.
The festival kicks off on Friday with some educational events about reptiles, a model train expo and a movie (Avatar: The Way of Water, rated PG-13) showing at the Ohio Theatre.
Ice sculptures will be on display by Saturday morning, with ice carving demonstrations happening at Central Park every hour starting at 11 a.m. and stretching to 4 p.m.
“That’s the main event. The demonstrations are really neat. They get a three-by-three block of ice and it’s really amazing what they can do,” Spreng said.
The ice sculptures will be on display through Sunday, too.
Food vendors will also have a variety of eats to purchase in Central Park, Spreng said. There will be vintage and new snowmobiles out on display and available for purchase. The American Legion will have a poker walk on Saturday, too.
The forecast is Ohio winter-like.
The National Weather Service is calling for snow Friday. Sunny skies are expected on Saturday, but the high is 30 degrees. On Sunday, the high will be 39.
There is no entry fee for the weekend event.
“We try to do different events to bring people to town, to support our businesses,” Spreng said. “This hopefully gets people out of the house when there’s not a lot of things happening in the winter.”
