ASHLAND -- Ashland's Main Street celebrated summer's swan song with the community during Ashlandapalooza on Saturday.

Crowds flooded the streets as businesses unrolled their welcome mats preparing for a full day of fresh faces entering their doorways. Some even set out stands on the sidewalk and greeted those who passed by.

Several meet-and-greets were available for children's photo opportunities, including minions, fairies and a real-life mermaid (made possible by Whoopsie Daisy Bowtique).

PNC Park hosted events that included Rumours presenting a dog show that took place in the late morning showcasing a variety of perky pooches. Whoopsie Daisy Bowtique hosted the Miss Ashland Pagaent in the afternoon and music by cover band Tarp (from New London) presented by Whitaker-Myers Insurance.

A plethora of food trucks were parked for convenience while the Ashland Fire Department set up a truck for onlookers at the end of the street.

There were plenty of activities for children available as well. The Ashland Combat Club set up a dunk tank, while the Ashland Bike Company awarded kids who drew a bicycle with a brand new football or soccer ball.

Purple shirts speckled the crowds as Ashland University students dotted the audience.

Ashlandapalooza lasted from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and saw a variety of students including those from preschool to the AU's incoming freshmen.
