SHELBY – More than 10,000 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members, advisers, alumni, and guests from across the country gathered in Anaheim, California for the 2019 National Leadership Conference held June 29-July 5.

Pioneer Career and Technology Center Early Childhood Education students Samantha Carroll (2019 Ontario HS graduate) and Kendra Cole (2019 Plymouth graduate) competed in the Focus on Children category. Competing against 102 teams representing all 50 states and Puerto Rico, Pioneer’s team presented their project on Recycling.

Carroll and Cole held a recycling drive in Pioneer’s Preschool. They planned and implemented activities for the Pre-K classes and sent home a bag with five interactive activities for the Pre-K students to do with their families to promote recycling. Then they followed up with a survey regarding continued recycling at home.

Pioneer’s team received a gold ranking. To receive a gold ranking the team must receive a 95% out of 100.
