SHELBY — Four students from the Pioneer Career and Technology Center will be moving on to the SkillsUSA Ohio State Championships on April 16 and 17.

In total, 23 Pioneer students participated in the Northwest Regional Competitions on Feb. 15 at the Penta Career Center in Perrysburg and at Carpenters Local #351 in Rossford.

Those advancing from this competition included Customer Service bronze medalist Alivia Channing (Graphic Arts, Plymouth), Cosmetology silver medalist Breena Patrick (Cosmetology, Ontario), and the Esthetics silver medalist team of Brooklyn Miller (Cosmetology, Ontario) and Riley Blubaugh (Cosmetology, Northmor).

In order to compete at the regional level, each student must have been named as a local champion in their skill area.

“The contests were challenging and we are so proud of all our students,” Pioneer officials noted in a press release. “Congratulations to all our champions and good luck to our regional medalists and our straight-to-state contenders as they prepare for the upcoming state competitions.”

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations and for further education.
