MANSFIELD — The Mansfield City Schools board of education will vote Tuesday night on whether to consider a reduction in force due to strained district finances.

“The treasurer and superintendent have provided the Board with information regarding the current and projected financial condition of the Mansfield City Schools District … and the Board has determined that it is necessary to consider a Reduction in Force for financial reasons as a result of the projected budget deficit at the end of this current fiscal year,” states a resolution on the board’s agenda.

If passed, the resolution will declare the board’s intent to consider a reduction in force in the 2020-2021 school year for both licensed/certificated and classified staff.

In addition, the board will hear a presentation from Core Management Services, a janitorial and custodial consulting company, which conducted a third party audit of COVID compliance policies.

Other agenda items to come before the board include:

  • A temporary resolution allowing the employment of substitute teachers with an associate’s degree (rather than a bachelor’s degree) as permitted by Ohio House Bill 409 through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

  • A vote on the termination of food service worker Jennifer McCollister.

  • Votes on various student services contracts, personnel items, a professional development contract and a reimbursement contract with Mansfield UMADAOP for costs associated with its COVID-19 food delivery program.

The full agenda for the board’s Feb. 16 meeting can be viewed here. The meeting will be held virtually at 5:30 p.m. and live-streamed on the district’s YouTube channel.

Due to the COVID-19  requirements for conducting meetings, requests to address the board will need to be submitted via email to the District Treasurer Tacy Courtright at courtright.tacy@mansfieldschools.org. All email requests must be received by 5 p.m. the day of the meeting.

Emails must include the sender’s full name and address. The request needs to state the concern directly or provide a question that can be read at the board meeting and addressed or answered in the allotted four-minute period of time for each person, during this portion of the board meeting.
