MANSFIELD -- The Mansfield City School District has revised its start-of-school schedule, implementing a staggered start for kindergarten students and grades seven through 12.
The staggered days will allow teachers to get to know students in small groups and assess individual student needs and allow the district to more easily communicate routines and procedures, according to district spokesman Larry Gibbs.
"The purpose of the staggered starts is to ensure a positive beginning for the 2019-2020 school year," said Supt. Stan Jefferson.
"I know many schools look to see a staggered start," Jefferson said. "Research shows (students do better) when you take large group and make them small. I think in the long run, this will have a tremendous impact on students."
The revised schedule is as follows:
Monday, Aug. 26 – In session: Kindergarten screening by appointment; all buildings grades 1-6; MMS grade 7 and MSHS 9; Spanish Immersion grades 1-8.
Tuesday, Aug. 27 – In session: Kindergarten screening by appointment; all buildings grades 1-6; MMS grade 8 and MSHS grade10; Spanish Immersion grades 1-8.
Wednesday, Aug. 28 – In session: All pre-K classes; kindergarten class assignments and parent notification; all buildings grades 1-8; MSHS grades 11 and 12.
