NEW LONDON — Between Feb. 1 and March 9, Firelands Electric Cooperative asked its member-families to nominate their school’s most passionate and dedicated elementary teachers.

Eligible educators could teach kindergarten through fifth grade at any of the 20 elementary schools that have students living in a home receiving power from the not-for-profit electric provider.

Teachers with the most nominations in each of two grade categories were awarded a plaque and a prize package for their classroom. The package included age-appropriate energy-themed books, games, and activities for their class valued at approximately $100. runners-up in each grade category also received a plaque and a prize package worth $50.

Winners will also be featured on Firelands’ social media accounts and in an upcoming issue of Ohio Cooperative Living magazine.

Congratulations to the following area educators: Grades K-2 winner – Amy Secrist (first grade), Lucas Elementary; grades K-2 runner-up – Jessica Cook (first grade), Lucas Elementary; grades 3 to 5 winner – Ann Stitzlein (third grade), Loudonville’s McMullen Elementary; grades 3-5 runner-up – Jennifer Raubenolt (third grade), Hillsdale Elementary.
