FREDERICKTOWN — Recently, members of the Fredericktown FFA chapter were recognized by the Ohio FFA Association online through the Ohio FFA State Celebration in place of the State FFA Convention that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The event was held online thru social media events. It is a celebration of the Ohio FFA’s growth and achievements and a leadership experience for those in attendance.

The Ohio FFA State Celebration consisted of leadership workshops, and a variety of sessions that include award recognitions and a retiring address by Fredericktown FFA member Holly McClay who is this year’s Ohio FFA President.

Many members were recognized on the state level for their accomplishments.

Three of the officers were given gold ratings this year. Macy Thorne received a State Gold Secretary Award. Katie Mull was awarded the State Gold Treasurer Award and Falon Smith was awarded a State Gold Reporter Award.

In order to receive any of the three awards mentioned above, members must serve in one of the offices and keep the necessary records and receive a gold rating when the books are evaluations by the District and State FFA. They must show outstanding qualities of leadership in their position and complete all of the tasks and duties that are a part of their role.

Additionally, Andrea Smith competed in the State Agriscience Fair thru online submission. Participants in this activity are required to use the scientific theory to conduct a test or experiment regarding an aspect of agriculture. They must do research before the trials, form a hypothesis, test their hypothesis, and complete records on their findings. Andrea didn’t place in the top three and will be receiving her rating in the near future.

Two members received their State FFA Degrees which were: Rachel Matthews and Kaid Benson.

Holly McClay was recognized for her year of service to the Ohio FFA Association as she retired her position of State FFA President. Maribeth Pozderac was recognized for her year of service to the Ohio FFA Association as she retired her position of State Vice-President At Large and was a candidate for State President.

The Fredericktown FFA Advisor is Debra Burden.
