BELLVILLE – Discovery School hosted their annual fundraising auction Saturday evening to raise money for the school's Scholarship Fund.
The "Starry Night" themed event was held at Deer Ridge Golf Club in Bellville, who donated the use of their space. After some expenses, the net income to the scholarship fund was around $35,000.
Attendees stepped into the famous van Gogh painting thanks to the decorating talents of Shanna Stapleton of Prospering Life Events. Tapas-style appetizers were served. Discovery parent, Stacy Davis, used her baking talents to create all of the beautifully-detailed desserts.
Everything from gift cards, to baskets, to hand-made items were in the silent auction while amazing trips like Cabo and Disney as well as date night packages, jewelry, and OSU collectors items were auctioned-off live thanks to the donated services of Whatman Auctioneers. As always, the most popular items to auction-off were the collaborative student art pieces completed by each grade-level.
There were even two art pieces that the entire school had been involved in. These pieces are truly priceless. Another very popular item was the "Proper English Garden Tea Party" with Assistant Head of School, Simon Clark, who is from Great Britain.
For the last 43 years, Discovery School has been committed to making their top-notch education accessible to all students, despite the income level of their families. This can only be accomplished thanks to contributions of generous supporters. The auction is certainly about raising money, but it is also about building community. The event could not have been as successful as it was without a lot of people working together for the students and the school that they love.
