MANSFIELD -- The Mansfield-Richland County 3rd Grade Spelling Bee will host its pre-test screening event Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Mansfield UMADAOP Community Outreach Center.
February's countywide spelling bee is open to all Richland County students, but contestants must qualify either through their school qualifying bee or the pre-test screening.
The Oct. 17 pre-test screening is open to third grade students from Mansfield City School, Discovery School, Mansfield Christian School, Richland School of Academic Arts, Temple Christian School and Mansfield Seventh-Day Adventist. All other schools select their own contestants at separately held events.
Everyone must wear a mask, use hand sanitizer and practice social distancing during the qualifier. Only a small number of students will be tested at a time. Students will be screened on a first come, first serve basis.
The fifth annual Mansfield-Richland County 3rd Grade Spelling Bee is set for Feb. 18, 2021, with a snow make-up day on Feb. 25. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and the competition commences at 2:30 p.m. The bee will be held at First Christian Church at 200 West Third Street.
