MANSFIELD – Auditions will take place for Back to The Divine Comedy at The Ohio State University at Mansfield on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at 6 p.m. in Founders Auditorium.
A piano accompanist will be provided. Those participating should provide sheet music with 16 measures of a Broadway-style song or pop ballad. As an alternative, you may also sing your song to recorded accompaniment (no recorded voices, please). You will need to provide the recording and the playing device; we will have a speaker and a standard headphone jack if you wish to amplify the sound.
Auditions are open to everyone (not just students), and consist of the presentation of your music selection, short readings from the script (available in the campus library), and a simple movement sequence. Auditions are open to both students and community artists.
This work comes straight from Italy to an American premier in our theatre to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s original masterwork. Described by its creators as "a bit of musical, a bit of rock opera," it blends styles as diverse as those found in Rocky Horror, Alice in Wonderland, Grease, and West Side Story, and all based on the poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
A modern Dante starts a journey to the afterlife with the hope of bringing back to life his young wife. Following the path of his ancestor, he walks through hell, purgatory, and heaven. Along the way bizarre characters show him how eternal life has changed during the last 700 years. It is a timeless story of love, loss, facing your fears, and finding your way.
