MANSFIELD -- Marilou Schwan, known as WeeWee to her family and closest friends, was honored with the awarding of two scholarships in her memory at the Class Day for the 2019 graduates of Mansfield Senior High School.
Rosemary Odom and Kennedy Rabquer were each presented with a $2,000 Marilou Schwan Memorial Award from the Altrusa International Inc. of Mansfield Foundation.
The girls were chosen based on their overall citizenship, attitude and grades. Besides getting her diploma from Mansfield City Schools, Kennedy Rabquer also received her Associate Degree from North Central State and will be continuing her education at Ohio State Mansfield. Joslyn Odom will be attending Miami University.
Marilou was a charter member of the Mansfield Altrusa club and active until her passing at 99 on May 20, 2016. She is remembered for her love of her Altrusa angels, her belief in the good in all people, her love of sweet red wine and a good joke. The funds in the award represent donations given to Mansfield Altrusa in her memory, plus a bequest in her will.
Gayle Green, a longtime former Mansfield Altrusan and close friend of Marilou’s, together with Judie and Robert Housel, Marilou’s granddaughter, represented the Mansfield club at the ceremony. Marilou’s motto was one we all could emulate.
“If you care, you share; if you get, you give.”
