2019 Bratwurst Festival Queen candidates

These seven candidates are vying for the title of 2019 Bratwurst Festival Queen.

BUCYRUS -- Seven girls are vying for the title of 2019 Bratwurst Festival Queen.  The pageant will be held on the Wyandot Mutual Insurance Stage on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.

Here's a closer look at each contestant.

Maddyson Rose Stewart-Barto

Maddy is the daughter of Leslie and Matt Barto. She has four siblings that are sets of twins.

Bryce and Alison, and Abbygail and Blayne. She is a senior at Bucyrus High School and participates in varsity cheerleading, track, science club, student council and leadership group. Maddy volunteers for the American Red Cross and is the president of the Bucyrus High School blood drive committee.

In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, shopping, and playing with her little cousins. She has traveled to 7 states, Niagara Falls, and Disney World. Her favorite vacation is going to Oak Island, North Carolina with her family. Maddyson plans on attending a four-year college to obtain a degree in Special Education or Speech Pathology.

Maddy would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because it has become a family tradition to be Bratwurst royalty and would like to continue the tradition. Her little sister was on the Junior Princess court and she would appreciate the opportunity to become queen to travel the state and represent the city of Bucyrus.

She feels that she is uniquely suited to be queen because of the different areas she is involved in here in Bucyrus. It would give her an opportunity to represent not only her high school, but Bucyrus and Bratwurst Festival. Maddy has the ability of situational judgement and leads by example. She often listens to her mother say, “just remember that your little cousins are watching everything you do, and they look up to you.”

Madison Wagner

Madison is the daughter of Joseph and Michelle Wagner. She has two siblings named Jacob and Katelyn Wagner and attends Wynford High School. She is involved in Young Life and is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In school, Madison is involved in FFA, Student Council, softball, National Honor Society of High School Scholars, and Prom Committee.

Her hobbies include playing softball, hanging out with friends and family, volunteering for benefit dinners, meeting new people, and helping her grandma. Her future plans are to attend college to become a traveling NICU nurse.

Madison would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because she believes her high energy and positive outlook could be an asset to representing the Bratwurst Festival. She is an outgoing and friendly person, very active in school, church and the community and would like to pay it forward.

She has a positive attitude toward life and loves being around new people. She feels that she is a good role model for teens her age and younger children as well. She wants to experience traveling to different festivals and tell them about our community and festival. Madison would love the opportunity to represent Bucyrus to make new friends and memories.

Abigail Brocwell

Abie is the daughter of Grant and Angie Brocwell. She has one older sister named Jessica and attends Colonel Crawford High School. She volunteers with her church youth group, trash pickup for her 4-H club, and nursing homes. In school, Abie is in marching band, pep band, rock band, show choir, school musicals, and health and safety committee.

She is the president of the ParliPro team, and HOSA president. Outside of school, Abie likes to play the piano and ukulele, is part of the Crawford Theatre Company and is a Tri-County Garden Tractor Puller. Abie has traveled to almost 30 counties in Ohio this year as Crawford County Fair Queen.

Her future goals are to continue school at North Central State College to pursue a degree in nursing and become an RN. Abie would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because she wants to be a leader and a role model to the younger members of our community. Many of the younger girls look up to the Bratwurst Festival Queen and her court and it would be an honor to be one of those role models.

Abie has always told herself that being Bratwurst Royalty is something she wants to be a part of. She knows it is not about the crown and sash but being able to proudly represent our community. Being the 2019 Bratwurst Festival Queen would allow her to do that.

Paige Rex

Paige is the daughter of Joe and Amanda Rex and has two siblings TJ and Alex. She volunteers for the Bull Pen for Christmas, Bucyrus Little League, Wyandot East Fire Department and the Nevada Car Show. Paige attends Wynford High School and is involved in Young Life, Teen Institute, Future Farmers of America, is a varsity cheerleader and plays softball.

She loves to travel, read, meet new people, and swim. Her future goals are to become an EMT-Paramedic and a firefighter. Paige would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because it would be a great experience to have in life. She has always been a “behind-the-scenes” type of person and has never been in any pageant before.

She is hoping this pageant brings her out of her shell and helps her develop life skills. Paige hopes being the Bratwurst Festival Queen will allow her to comfortably speak publicly and interact with others.

She wants to be a role model for younger girls and loves seeing them become interested in the Bratwurst Festival Royalty and knows it would be a privilege to represent Bucyrus.

Brooklyn Gebhardt

Brooklyn is the daughter of Chad and Anny Gebhardt and Jacki and Chris Downs. She has four siblings: Zoltan, Alison, Hannah, and Declan. Brooklyn works at Abilities in Action and volunteers at Mount Gilead UCC along with babysitting neighborhood kids. She is involved in American Sign Language Club, Education Club, and Catholic Mass.

She has traveled to Outer Banks, Tybee Island, Georgia, Disney in Orlando, and Washington D.C. Brooklyn is a sophomore at Walsh University studying Early Childhood Education and Special Education and hopes to work with special needs children.

Brooklyn would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because she would like to represent Bucyrus and be a leader to future Bratwurst Queens. She would like to gain experiences and memories with the girls running. She hopes to travel to festivals around Ohio and bring back ideas to our committee.

Sarah Beck

Sarah is the daughter of Clifford and Rami Beck. She has a sister Sophia and brother named Isaac. She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and is in the youth group, plays the trumpet in their brass group and trumpet ensembles. She has actively been in Girl Scouts for 11 years and is working toward her gold award.

She was a member of the Girl Scout Delegate Advisory Council and was asked to be a speaker at the annual meeting for the Girl Scout Council. In school at Colonel Crawford, she is in regular and summer softball, concert band, marching band, pep band and rock band. Sarah also competes in weight lifting and is the field commander for the 2019 marching band season.

Sarah does community service through a music group called Tri-M at Colonel Crawford and enjoys painting, cooking, playing her trumpet, sewing and reading. She currently works at Gordman’s and has traveled to five states, seven European countries with the Bowling Green travel band including England, Germany, France, Lichtenstein, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

She also babysits in her free time. Sarah attends North Central State for Early Childhood Education with a focus in children with special needs. She plans on attending Otterbein University in the fall of 2020. Sarah would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because she loves representing our community.

She has a lot of ties in our community and being Bratwurst Festival Queen is another way she can represent our town in a positive way. She would love the opportunity to travel around Ohio and share not only Bratwurst Festival traditions, but also share information about how great our town is. To Sarah, being bratwurst Festival Queen means being a positive role model for younger girls in our community. Bratwurst Festival, Inc.

Haley Easterday

Haley is the daughter of Carl and Chris Easterday. She is an only child and attends Bucyrus High School. She has volunteered at Safety Town and delivered food baskets during Christmas with a local church in Bucyrus.

In school, Haley is involved in track, science club, volleyball, softball and DECA. She enjoys photography, hanging out with friends, and helping her parents take care of horses. She has traveled to nine states and plans on attending the University of Toledo to major in Business.

Haley would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Queen because she thinks it would be a great opportunity to be a role model for younger girls and to be able to represent her hometown and festival. Ever since she can remember she has loved coming to the festival and was the 2009 Junior Princess.

With her experience as Junior Princess, it has made her want to take on the responsibility as The Bratwurst Festival Queen. Haley would love to travel, get to experience other festivals, and bring back ideas to benefit our festival and community.
