Owl Prowl

There will be an Owl Prowl on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park in Leesville.

CRESTLINE -- The Crawford Park District has released its schedule of upcoming events in December.

Owl Prowl

The Owl Prowl takes place on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598.

Eight species of owls call Ohio home with only four species being full time residents. Join Crawford Park District staff to learn about these amazing avian predators of the night.

"We will meet in Lowe-Volk Nature Center to learn about our local owls then head outside for a night hike searching for roosting birds in our woods. Binoculars are recommended," organizers stated.

Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles north of US Route 30. For more information on other programs offered by the Crawford Park District, visit our web site at www.crawfordpd.org or follow us on Facebook.

Waterfowl Watch

The Waterfowl Watch takes place on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Bucyrus Reservoirs.

Join Crawford Park District staff for an annual waterfowl watch as we monitor local waterfowl numbers at the nearby Bucyrus Reservoirs.

Waterfowl migration is well underway in Ohio with peak numbers for many duck and geese species occurring in November. December still provides opportunities to observe large numbers of stragglers with diving ducks arriving in large flocks as late migrators. Gulls are also well known to flock together in mass during the winter months making it much easier to spot rarer species.

"We will meet at Lowe-Volk Park, then carpool to the reservoirs," organizers stated. "Be prepared to be outside. Binoculars are recommended."
