GALION -- A Galion man was found dead on Wednesday afternoon and local officials have reached out to state authorities to aid in the investigation.
According to Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield, Joseph Gerster, 46, was found dead at approximately 2:07 p.m. near the CSX railroad tracks south of the railroad crossing on Sherman Street. Officers responded to the area and found his body laying in the tree-lined area just east of the tracks.
Upon initial investigation, a cause of death was uncertain.
The Crime Scene Unit of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to process the area.
"We also received assistance from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, Crestline Police Department, CSX Police Department, and the Crawford County Prosecutor's Office," Saterfield said.
An autopsy will be performed by the Lucas County Coroner's Office, as ordered by the Crawford County Coroner.
The case remains under investigation.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Gerster," Saterfield said.
