Galion High School boys basketball coach Matt Valentine has resigned his position. The search will begin immediately for his replacement.

GALION – Galion High School Head Boys Basketball coach Matt Valentine has resigned his position.

Valentine led the Tigers basketball program for three seasons. His first season began very quickly, as he accepted the position a little less than two weeks before the season officially began.

“I appreciate Matt taking the job at the last minute and his commitment to his players,” Galion Superintendent Jim Grubbs said.

Valentine informed Galion High School Athletic Director Kyle Baughn that he would be open to staying on the staff as an assistant coach, but cited increased work responsibilities as his reason for resigning.

“Matt stepped up when we need him,” Baughn said. “He worked extremely hard to help the kids and we appreciate everything he has given over the past three seasons.”

Baughn said he will be opening the search immediately to find the next head basketball coach for the boys program.
