BUCYRUS – The Bucyrus High School Student Council and Mohawk Elementary School will begin a friendly competition to see which district can collect the most pop tabs March 18 through 29.

The schools are collecting the pop tabs to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“I’ve personally had family members and friends benefit from the Ronald McDonald House,” BHS Student Council Advisor Kaylene Love said. “I’m eager to give back as much as possible.”

Approximately 1,200 tabs equals one pound, and the Ronald McDonald House will receive about 40 to 50 cents per pound of pop tabs collected.

“This fundraiser had been done several years ago by the Middle School Student Council,” Love said. “I contacted former Bucyrus teacher and middle school student council advisor Erika Orians and she was excited to have Mohawk Elementary get involved in the fundraiser.”

Pop tab collection sites in Bucyrus include the Bucyrus High School office, McDonald’s on Marion Road in Bucyrus and the Salvation Army in Bucyrus. Community members are encouraged to drop off pop tabs at any of the three sites during their regular business hours.

“As a school, we are always looking for ways to help our community and the society around us,” Bucyrus junior Tyler Bishop said. “We are holding this pop tab drive to benefit children and their families at the Ronald McDonald House, and I hope the Bucyrus community will participate.”
