MANSFIELD — Mansfield resident Elizabeth Evans wants her store to be a place where people can explore products that may be unfamiliar and find what works for them.

The New Moon specializes in metaphysical, spiritual and alternative health items. The store carries a variety of items including books, healing crystals and stones, ear candles, incense, all natural mineral makeup and spa products, oracle and tarot cards, journals, dream catchers, tapestries and walking sticks.

“For me, there’s no right or wrong way. You can’t judge somebody else for their path. Their path is their path,” Evans said. “It’s not for me to decide what’s best for somebody else, and it’s not for them to decide what’s best for me.

“But if we can intertwine and learn something about each other, that’s a good world.”

Evans recently relocated her store from the corner of South Main and Prospect to 301 North Mulberry Street in Mansfield. She renovated the space with new paint and floors in just two weeks with the help of her family and friends.

“It used to be the old glass factory, so when I came in, there was stuff everywhere — glass racks, all of it,” she recalled.

Evans said she wants her store to be accessible to customers. Her cell phone number is printed her business cards and she encourages clients to call her any time — even after store hours.

“We’re very small town. I try to be very personal,” she said. “If you call my cell phone and I am not here … I will meet you down here. If you have a question that I cannot answer, I’ll do the research to find out the answer.”

“If I do not carry something, I will try to find it for you.

Evans previously worked in restaurant management, but she has always been interested in alternative holistic health and spirituality.

“It’s nice to be able to help somebody naturally,” she said. “I feel like it provides me with self worth, because when you’re helping other people, you help yourself. “

In addition to selling products, Evans also offers various treatments in her store. She is certified in whole body reflexology and Reiki.

“Reiki is a transfer of energy which also uses the chakra system. So it helps align the body so that everything flows better,” she explained.

Evans is also certified in raindrop therapy, which combines essential oils and massage.

Customers can also pay for foot detox services, time in the far infrared sauna or a relaxing session on the shop’s migun bed.

According to Evans, the heated jade rollers of the migun bed help relax and adjust the body, much like a gentle version of a chiropractic appointment. The bed costs $1 per minute.

Alternative health and wellness methods and products are sometimes controversial, but Evans said she’s not too concerned about the skeptics.

“People are fearful of what they don’t understand. So if it’s not comfortable for you, don’t do it,” she said. “Not everybody goes down the same path.”
