The Knights of Columbus Council 1968 in Shelby presented a check for $2,373.18 to Richland Newhope on Tuesday.

The money is earmarked for the Gift Fund, which assists individuals and families supported by Richland Newhope. It was raised as part of the Knights of Columbus’ annual Measure Up campaign, which involves all K of C Councils in Ohio. More than 40 members of the Shelby council collected donations from shoppers at Drug Mart, Sportsman’s Den, Rite Aid, Cornell’s IGA, and Gwirtz Foods in Shelby on April 4-6.

The Knights of Columbus Council 1968 has been a major contributor to Richland Newhope for many years. The council covers St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Catholic parishes in the Shelby area. It’s one of several Knights councils in Richland County which supports Newhope and its programs.

Over the years, money donated by Shelby residents for Richland Newhope’s Gift Fund has been used to provide various supports for individuals with developmental disabilities, such as the purchase of wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment.

In 2012, Richland Newhope served more than 1,850 individuals through early intervention, preschool, adult, residential, therapy, transportation, and other family-support programs.
