SHELBY -- Avita Health System was named Pioneer’s 2020 and 2021 Ralph Phillips Business Partner of the Year. This prestigious award is given to an area business that has demonstrated support for Pioneer and its programs, students and alumni.

It was renamed in 2010 in honor of the late Ralph Phillips, President and Owner of Phillips Manufacturing and Tower Company, the first recipient of the award. The criteria for this award are designed around the attributes we most admired in Mr. Phillips.

Avita Health System nomination included Jerry Morasko, CEO, Kim Winkle, Vice President of Corporate Relations, Tracy Oswald, Vice President of Human Resources Shirley Fitz, Vice President Ancillary Services, Bri Harmon, Vice President of Recruitment and Engagement Management, Jason Atwell, Nurse Practitioner, and Diana Rhodes, LPN.

"Avita has been a great partner for Pioneer’s high school and adult education medical program students," the school stated. "They have allowed our students to shadow in multiple areas and given them a first-hand look at what happens at the hospital daily.

"Externships in phlebotomy help our Adult Education students earn their certifications as well. Avita employees also serve on several of our program advisory committees."

The creation of Avita Health System occurred when Bucyrus Community Hospital and Galion Community Hospital joined in 2011. It is a locally governed, patient-centered, integrated health care system that is committed to providing superior medical services to north central Ohio.

Avita has grown from approximately 450 employees to over 1,800 employees who provide patient care in Crawford and Richland counties.

Pioneer Career and Technology Center has been providing quality career-technical education to high school juniors and seniors for over 50 years. The school serves over 1,100 students from 14 partner schools enrolled in over 35 Career Tech Programs and offer adult education programs and training. Visit our website at www.go2pioneer.com.
