MANSFIELD -- A new grocery store opened in the former E & B Market on West Fourth Street in Mansfield Tuesday morning.
Ontario couple Karamjit Singh Bhullar and Varinder Kaur Bhullar have been looking forward to the opening of KV Market at 359 W. Fourth St. for more than two years.
“We're hoping for the best. We just need the community's support,” Karamijit said.
He and his wife purchased the property in late 2016 and began renovations more than two years ago. They replaced all the appliances and lights with more energy-efficient options and built a dock to make the delivery process flow better.
Karamjit describes KV Market as a cross between a grocery and convenience store.
“We are not too big and we are not too small, so we are right in the middle to survive in this neighborhood,” he said. “We are a little bigger than a convenience store, so we can offer some healthy choices too.”
The market offers meats, dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to a wide variety of snacks, beer and other convenience items.
The hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, upon opening, but may be adjusted as needed. Sunday the store will open for a shorter time period. Karamjit thought it could open at 8 or 10 a.m.
“It's exciting to be a part of this community. Everybody is appreciative of our work,” he said.
He and his wife also own the Sunoco on Lexington Avenue. The space was formerly a garage, before they bought and renovated it in 2011, shortly after moving to the area from Canada.
The couple said they’ve enjoyed their time in Richland County and hope the community will support this new business venture.
“I think it should work. The rest is up to the community,” Karamjit said.
