ONTARIO ─ Macy’s Inc. confirmed Wednesday morning that it is closing its anchor store location at Richland Mall.
“After careful consideration, Macy’s has decided to close our Richland Mall location. This closure is part of the company’s strategy announced in early 2020,” said Carolyn Ng Cohen, director of media relations, in an email to Richland Source.
The confirmation came after a rumor about the department store's closure went viral on Tuesday evening.
Cohen said a clearance sale will begin this month and run for approximately 8 to 12 weeks.
The company has shared the information with employees and workers at the location, Cohen said. Non-seasonal workers that Macy’s was unable to place at a nearby store will be eligible for severance, including outplacement resources.
The story will be updated.
