SHELBY — A new smoothie and juice bar has come to shake things up in Shelby.

The Chill, located at 218 Mansfield Ave. in Shelby, officially opened for business on Aug. 24 with the mission to help their customers live happy, healthy lifestyles.

It's the first expansion of Downtown Nutrition, which has offered shakes and teas in downtown Mansfield for more than a year now. The Mansfield location had its grand opening on Park Avenue West in May 2019, then relocated to a new spot on 4th Street in March 2020.

For owner Deanna Vanderpool, a native of Willard, expanding to Shelby was a stroke of good timing and even better luck.

"This kind of fell in my lap; I wasn't even looking to expand at that moment, then we figured out who owned this building and came to look at it and I decided, let's do it," Vanderpool said. "I wanted to be here before I went to Mansfield, and I saw an opportunity."

Vanderpool wasted no time decorating the small shop to create a cozy, welcoming space for visitors. The Chill officially opened just two weeks after Vanderpool was given the keys.

Customers can temporarily park in the O'Reilly Auto Parts parking lot while The Chill's new parking lot is under construction. Those on the go can also utilize the drive-thru by entering the Nicole & Co. parking lot and driving behind the building.

Like its parent location, The Chill sells herbal aloe teas and meal-replacement shakes. The teas come in fruity flavors including peach, lemon and raspberry, as well as chai and cinnamon. According to Vanderpool, the herbal aloe helps with digestion and boosts energy.

The teas pair with Herbalife shakes meant to serve as meal replacements, in flavors ranging from French vanilla and orange cream to brownie batter and banana caramel.

"This is a really small town and there are no healthy options here, so people are super excited," Vanderpool said. "Everyone has been super supportive; we've been just as busy as Downtown Nutrition that's been open for over a year now."

The Chill is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
