MANSFIELD — The owners of Cypress Hill Winery hope to soon open their business along with a deli at a new location.

Though an opening date hasn’t been set yet, Rick and Carol Taylor are excited to move into the former, National Electric Supply building at 51 E. 4th St. in downtown Mansfield. They’d like to open in March with both the winery and a new deli, and eventually add an upscale restaurant, called Hudson & Essex, to the 14,400-square-foot space.

“My real intent is when we open, we’ll probably open the winery and deli first. Probably just open for breakfast and lunch,” Rick Taylor said.

The menu hasn’t yet been determined for the deli or restaurant.  The deli will be located on the first floor, along with the restaurant eventually, and the winery and gift shop will be located on the lower floor. Seating will be available at the deli, restaurant, winery and on the patio, depending on the season.

“I’m probably most excited to have more room than where we’re at now,” Taylor said.

In addition to its larger seating area, the winery’s new location will feature a bar, decorative fireplace and space for Taylor to bottle wine.

At the winery’s current location, 37 E. 4th St., he has to move tables and chairs to bottle wine.

“Here, we will hang barn doors, so it can always be set up,” Taylor said, pointing to a portion of the downstairs floor that hasn’t yet been closed off.

The Taylors have owned and ran Cypress Hill Winery in downtown Mansfield for more than a decade and are open Thursday through Saturday. Rick Taylor said the winery draws from all parts of the state, including Cleveland and Columbus.

“But one of the things I’ve realized is, a winery needs food, and I’d like to be able to control what kind of food we serve our customers,” Taylor said. “We really want to give them some nice choices.”

Taylor hopes to open the restaurant for dinner only at first. He’d like to see it open for patio season. Further down the road, he’d like to open the caverns discovered outside as an event space.
