Burlington to reopen

The Burlington store at 580 N. Lexington Springmill Road in Ontario will reopen Aug. 21, according to a sign on the door.

ONTARIO --  The Burlington department store will reopen its doors on Aug. 17.

After asking about a sign on the door that reads "Grand Opening August 21," Crystal Williams, a public relations representative for Burlington, told Richland Source that the opening date is August 17.

According to Williams, the store will reopen with a new layout due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The layout is designed to encourage social distancing, with one-way entrances and exits at the front  of the store, wider check-out lanes and signage reminding customers and associates to remain at least six feet apart.

“We will take proactive steps to routinely clean and disinfect all areas of the store, including frequently cleaning high-touch areas, providing sanitization materials throughout, making shopping cart wipes available, and having deep cleaning response plans in place,” Williams said.

The store, located at 580 N. Lexington Springmill Road, closed after a suspected arson fired on Jan. 27.

"It was a working fire when we pulled up," Springfield Township Fire Chief Matt Carey said the day of the fire. "It was actually such a large fire that the sprinkler system wasn't putting it out."

Fire department investigator Josh Bradley said the investigation into the arson remains ongoing.
