MANSFIELD -- Kiesha Boone and Jasmyn Webb believe you shouldn’t have to break the bank to feel beautiful. The two women behind The Beauty Bar in downtown Mansfield want to provide customers with an affordable place to feel pretty and pampered.

The Beauty Bar opened last month at 12 Park Street South. It offers a variety of options for those wanting to feel pretty and pampered, including facials, waxes, chemical peels, spray tans, acrylic and gel nails, manicures, pedicures and massage. The Beauty Bar also offers nail services for kids, including princess-themed packages.

“I don't want somebody to come in here and spend their whole paycheck. . . . We want you to look good, but look good on a dollar,” Webb said. “You don't have to spend $200 to get your lashes and a facial and a pedicure. My pedicures are $30, a full set (of acrylics) of $25. You can't get that anywhere else. And that was my goal.”

Boone and Webb met a year ago at a tanning salon and became fast friends. Boone, an aesthetician, was working at another salon at the time. Webb, who retired from the entertainment industry in May 2019, was studying advanced manicuring at Apex Academy.

“(Boone) was my biggest supporter because I wanted to give up during the coronavirus time when we had to do distance learning,” Webb recalled. “Here I am, 44 years old and I'm in a classroom of all 17, 18, 19 year olds. I didn't know how to do a PowerPoint.”

Boone knew what it was like dive headfirst into a new career. She decided to make the switch after 20 years working in the medical field as a phlebotomist.

“It’s hard at my age, when you got a family to quit your job and go for the gusto and go to school,” Boone said. “It was rough for that time. Trust me. There was days I was like, ‘Is this really worth it? But it has been. The only thing that I regret is not doing it sooner.”

Launching a new venture during a pandemic wasn’t easy, but Boone and Webb ultimately decided not to put their dreams on hold.

“We've been blessed,” Webb said. “Opening a new business, we were scared to go into it because of the Coronavirus situation, especially with the hair salons being shut down the same time bars were. But you know what? These are both of our passions, and we decided to go for it. So we took that leap.”

The Beauty Bar is open Monday through Saturday from 8 to 6, with some after-hours scheduling for those who need it. Customers can call The Beauty Bar at 567-560-3076 or call or text Webb at 419-496-6128.

“I always just tell people, text me if you need something. I'm there,” Webb said.
