ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra will present “Heroic Haydn” on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Ashland Grace Brethren Church and “There’s No Business Like Show Business” on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at the historic Ohio Theatre in Loudonville.
Saturday evening’s program will begin with Petite Symphonie by Charles Gounod. Gounod based this work on a mini-symphonic model and it showcases the woodwinds and horns.
Kenneth Holzworth is featured in Franz Joseph Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major. Written in 1796, this concerto remains popular with trumpet players today. Holzworth holds the principal trumpet position with both the Ashland Symphony and the Mansfield Symphony Orchestras.
He served for 20 years in the United States Army Band which ties in perfectly with “Heroic” Haydn and the Military Symphony No.100 in G major which closes the program. The ASO continues its countdown of Haydn symphonies with No.100 being one of the so-called “London” symphonies.

This concert is a blend of Classical and Pops and will feature selections from “Heroic Haydn” and Holzworth on trumpet. Music from stage and film will include Disney favorites, The Lord of the Dance, highlights from Wicked, and A Symphonic Portrait by Irving Berlin.
