ASHLAND – Organizers hope to paint Ashland blue Sunday with a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

The event, planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Corner Park in Ashland, was organized by Alissa Schmidt and Main Street Ashland President and City Councilwoman Sandra Tunnell.

Although recent events in Ashland have affected local law enforcement, Schmidt and Tunnell had been working on the Appreciation Day since July and picked the date to coincide with the end of the Ashland County Fair.

“But it does work out that we can show how supportive we are at a time when it is needed,” Tunnell said. “It’s always important to show policemen you support them.”

State Sen. Larry Obhof is supplying blue lights for those in attendance to take home and put on their porches to signify support for law enforcement.

“At night, it would be great if the whole streets were blue,” Tunnell said. “When officers drive by, we want them to know people are supporting them”

Detective Kim Mager from the Ashland Police Department will offer fingerprinting kits for kids.

Other activities include cornhole, sidewalk chalk drawing and a K-9 demonstration.
