After more than a hundred years since this photo was taken, the square in Plymouth still has most of the buildings seen in 1911, and it retains all of its slightly New England charm.

The town is situated directly on the boundary line between Huron and Richland Counties. So, it shares the north central Ohio characteristics of architecture and history that we find familiar in our county hometowns, plus the New England town features most often found in the Ohio Firelands area north of us.

That region was settled by Revolutionary War veterans from Connecticut.

That’s why the Square in Plymouth isn’t exactly square… it resembles more of a Town Commons like you might find in a New England countryside.
