Kathleen Mae (Cole) Vanasdale

Kathleen Mae (Cole) Vanasdale, 91, died Thursday morning April 7, 2016 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

She most recently resided at Elmcroft in Ontario and then Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

She was born Jan. 29, 1925 in rural Tiro area and was a lifelong resident. She was valedictorian and president of the class of 1942 at Tiro High School. She attended Oberlin Secretarial Business College. Kathleen was employed with Dr. Hess and Clark of Ashland, Shelby Wilkins Air Force Depot, Tiro Second National Bank and the Crawford County Treasurer’s Office.

On March 4, 1944 she married Willis (Bill) Vanasdale, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy on battleship U.S.S. Pennsylvania. Together they owned W.A. Vanasdale Inc., building steel buildings and grain systems. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2011.

Kathleen enjoyed flowers, reading, needlework and traveling. She was an avid fan of the Ohio State University football team and the Cleveland Indians.

She is survived by one son, Ronald (Mary Ellen) Vanasdale, of Shelby; her daughter-in-law, Linda Vanasdale, of Findlay; eight grandchildren, Gail (Kurt) Drier, Rhonda (Brian) van Ooyen, Jason (Jessica) Vanasdale, Sara (José) Bazán, Heidi (Ben) Brubach, Beth (Rusty) Herring, Alan (Julie) Vanasdale and Eric (Jessica) Vanasdale; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Maxine) Cole Jr.; sister-in-law, Effie Cole and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Thelma (Mellick) Cole; son, Michael Vanasdale and brothers, Clinton Cole and Marlin Cole.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 12, 2016 at the Tiro United Methodist Church. Rev. Garland Harvey will officiate with internment held in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the Tiro United Methodist Church.
