Joseph E. Dingess went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2019, in Winchester Terrace surrounded by his family. He was 74.

He was born July 18, 1944, in Shively, West Virginia to parents Clyde & Polly (Conley) Dingess. After he graduated from Chapmanville High School with the class of 1962, he proudly served his country by joining the US Army. Joseph served during the Vietnam War, which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He also married the love of his life Nancy Sellers on June 5, 1965, and the pair raised two children together.

Joseph worked for the US Postal Service for 28 years and retired as the Shelby Postmaster in 2000. He was also a former member of the Lexington Church of Christ.

An avid outdoorsman, Joseph enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cutting wood. He particularly enjoyed Walleye fishing on Lake Erie. He was also a sports enthusiast and loved to cook, especially the Sunday family dinners. But above all, Joseph cherished spending time with his grandchildren and family and will be missed by those who love him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Nancy Dingess; his children Shawn Dwyer and Joe T. (Christen) Dingess; four grandchildren Lauren Dwyer, Kara Dingess, Brooke (Kyle) Matern, and Brad Dingess; great-grandchild Carson Cosentino; siblings Roger (Sheila) Dingess, Greg (Charlene) Dingess, Donna (George) Ferrell, Sandy (Steve) Godby, and Dian Snyder; sister-in-law Libby Dingess; and numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother Sam Dingess.

A memorial service honoring Joseph’s life will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will speak.
