Elizabeth "Betty" Clagg

Elizabeth “Betty” Clagg, 79, resident of Shelby, died Monday evening, Nov. 13, 2017 at Life Care Hospice in Wooster.

Born July 27, 1938 in Oxford, Ohio to Herbert and Ruth (Johnson) Havens, she had been an Oxford resident before moving to Shelby in 1973. A 1956 graduate of Stewart High School in Oxford, Betty had worked for RS Hanline in Shelby for many years before retiring in 2000.

Betty had been a member of the Mansfield Stewart Road Church of God. She had enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, solving crossword puzzles. Most of all she loved supporting her grandchildren in their sporting and school events.

She is survived by her daughter, Anita (Thomas) Wheitner, of Shelby; four grandchildren, Emellia and her husband James, Austin, Melinda and Geordan; three great-grandchildren, William, Lyllean, Elaina; brother Leroy (Mary Sue) Havens, of Hamilton, Ohio; sister-in-law Arlene (Dan) Hutten, of Oxford, Ohio; seven brother-in-laws Samuel (Nina) and Don (Twyla) Clagg, of Wilder, Idaho; John Daniel (Wanda) Clagg, of Mansfield; Rev. Tim (Paulette) Clagg, of Farmer City, Illinois; Rev. Ron (Dione) Clagg, of Caldwell, Idaho, Junior Wagoner, of Mansfield, and Marcus Hamilton, of Idaho; two sister-in-laws, Lorene Patrick, of Shelby and Bonnie Hedrick, of Wilder, Idaho; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Malcom “Mack” Clagg in 2015; brother Eugene Havens; sister Alice Havens; five brother-in-laws, Clifford (Bureta), Paul David (Donna), Willard and Jerry Clagg and Oliver Patrick; four sister-in-laws Violet Wagoner, Mabel Hamilton, Mary Alice and Sharon Clagg; five nieces April Havens, Jean Jordan, Deborah Wartenbee, Liz “Candy” Garn, Grace Patrick and numerous other relatives.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, at the Mansfield Stewart Road Church of God, located at 1425 N. Stewart Road in Mansfield. Betty’s brother-in-law, Reverend Tim Clagg and nephew, Reverend Ben Patrick will officiate with interment held in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Relay for Life team “Caregivers for Hope.”
