Burnell J. Lewis

Burnell J. Lewis, 85, of Shiloh, died Monday, May 8, 2017 at his home.

Born Aug. 28, 1931 in Blaze, Kentucky to John T. and Nancy (DeHart) Lewis, he was a resident of Shiloh the majority of his adult life. He was employed with AK Steel in Mansfield for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church and the Ashland Coon Hunters Club. He had been a Little League coach for many years.

Burnell cherished the time he spent with his family, loved animals and had a passion for raising champion coon dogs. He hosted coon dog competitions and travelled extensively with his field trial dogs.

Survivors include his wife Mary (Hall) Lewis, whom he married April 25, 1996, two daughters Pam (Richard) Baker and Peggy (Michael) Messer, both of Shelby; step-children James Crockett, of Shiloh, and Sherry Knipp, of Tennessee; four grandchildren Nicole (Steven Bryant) Murphy, Cody (Sara) Baker, Heather Renew, Charity Lewis; three great grandchildren Peyton and Owen Murphy and Eli Bryant; five step-grandchildren Nicholas Crockett, Jacob Crockett, Sarah Knipp, James Mollett and William Lambert; five step-great-grandchildren Gabby Knipp, Robin, James and Carla Mollett and Robbin Lambert; two sisters Ruth Adkins, of Lexington, and Betty Nothacker, of Mansfield; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons Mark J. and Craig Lewis; Infant great-granddaughter, three brothers Harley, Kennel and Pete Lewis; two sisters Laura Lewis and Martha Martin.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 12, 2017 from the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Reverend C. Earl Tackett will officiate with interment in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help offset funeral costs.
