Each September the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board and its community partners continue their tradition of celebrating "National Recovery Month"! Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrates people in recovery, applauds the contributions of treatment and service providers,, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible. Recovery month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.
As partners we extend invitations to all Richland County residents to be part of one or more of the events noted below. Events planned for September of 2013 include:

Catalyst Life Services will have Helpline available 24 hours a day 7 days a week for questions/concerns regarding substance use and mental health recovery. Call 419-522-HELP (4357).

Catalyst Life Services will have various events which will be held to help individuals focus on recovery. These events include art projects for clients, 12 step programming, and staff trainings. 10 a.m. Joe Trolian will be with Doug Theaker taping I love my Job! The topic that will be discussed is Drugs in the Workforce and programming that is available to individuals to assist in improving skills for interviewing and obtaining employment.
NAMI Richland County will be offering free Family to Family Classes beginning September 12 running through November 21. Classes include information on diagnosis, medications, suicide prevention, how to advocate, what to do in a crisis, and care for the caregiver. Classes run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays and will be held at the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board at 87 East First Street, Suite L, Mansfield, Ohio. 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Richland County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will host its monthly support group meeting at the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board at 87 East First Street in Mansfield, Ohio.
7 p.m. A proclamation will be given by Mayor Marilyn John of the City of Shelby at Shelby City Hall.
7 p.m. Speaker Robert Brandt will from Robby’s Voice: Break the Silence will present his personal story about losing his son to opiate addiction at a Community Forum at the Ontario Middle School Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30. Area experts will also speak about current trends in substance abuse in Richland County. This event is sponsored by Ontario Schools, Catalyst Life Services, the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board, and Community Action for Capable Youth. Additional speakers for the event include Adam Gongwer from the Ontario Police Department, who serves as the Resource Officer, D.A.R.E. and A.L.I.C.E. Instructor with Ontario School and Forensic Scientist and Crime Lab Director Anthony J. Tambasco of the Mansfield Police Department. CEU’s and RCH’s will be provided.
9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Community Action for Capable Youth (CACY), Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board, Catalyst Life Services, and Mansfield Police Department in collaboration with Mansfield Senior High School will kick off Drug Free Prevention Month with an "Above the Influence" interactive student assembly.
8:15 am to 12 p.m. There will be an ethics training entitled Enhancing Supervision hosted by the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board in collaboration with Catalyst Life Services. The training will be held at The Longview Center at 1495 West Longview in Mansfield, Ohio. To register please call (419) 774-5811.
