MedCentral Home Care and Hospice is now a level two partner of the We Honor Veterans Program developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Because 25 percent of all deaths in the United States are veterans, and about four percent die in VA facilities, the need to educate hospice and palliative care providers on the special needs of veteran issues at the end-of-life is important.
There are four levels of recognition in the We Honor Veterans Program, which include learning to care for veterans; honoring veterans at the end of life; working with the VA at local, regional and national levels; recognizing current ability to serve veterans; educating hospice staff and volunteers; and measuring the quality and outcomes to continue to improve the program.
MedCentral’s level two designation will be listed on the We Honor Veterans website under the partner directory. The health system is working toward a Level Three partnership with plans to include a screening of the movie, “Honor Flight,” as part of MedCentral Home Care and Hospice community outreach.
