Derrick Andrew Gerhart, 31, of Lebananon, OH, was found dead on Thursday, April 3 after Mansfield police officers responded to an emergency call to the Budget Inn located at 1336 Ashland Rd., Mansfield.

According to the police report, Gerhart’s girlfriend was with him and called 911 after attempting CPR. She told police that she last spoke with Gerhart sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 12 a.m. Thursday when she woke up and tried to talk to him and found he was unresponsive.

The girlfriend told emergency medical responders that Gerhart was a heroin user but she didn’t know if he had used on Wednesday night. When no vitals could be discerned or initiated, the coroner was contacted and Bob Ball took custody of Gerhart’s body. His body was taken to Summit County for an autopsy.

Deputies searched the woman’s purse and found two syringes and a small digital scale. She was read her rights and transported to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
