MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Playhouse will be holding auditions for its first main stage production of the season, the Mel Brooks musical “Young Frankenstein.”

Open auditions will take place at the Mansfield Playhouse on 95 E. 3rd St. in Mansfield on Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.

Anyone interested is asked to prepare a song with accompaniment, be prepared to do cold readings from the script and be prepared to learn a short dance routine. Auditions are open to anyone 16 and older.

The electrifying adaptation of Mel Brooks’ monstrously funny film will leave you in stitches. Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor, and a leggy lab assistant, Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors.

“It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds. With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania, “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment.

Show dates are Oct. 19, 20, 26, 27 and Nov. 2, 3 and 4.
