GALION – Learning to read starts in the home, and to help parents and guardians in the Galion community, Galion Primary School is hosting the third event in a six-part series “Getting Ready to Read!” on Dec. 7 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Galion Primary staff will discuss what children need to know before they come to the first day of school. The discussion time will focus to help the parents as they prepare their child for school. This month’s topic will be “Vocabulary Building: Little Ones, Big Words.”

“By attending this session, and the others to follow, parents will learn important information that will contribute to our goal of every child reading at grade level by 3rd grade,” said Katy Erlsten, Galion Primary Assistant Principal and Preschool Coordinator. “This requires that we begin with a child’s first teacher, the parents, so he/she is ready for the first day of school and will be successful throughout his/her learning career at Galion City School District.”

Parents and guardians of children from birth to age 5 are welcome. In order to encourage parents to attend the whole session, free childcare with learning activities and a snack will be provided.

The event is free, and parents will receive $15 to use toward school fees. Parents must RSVP by Dec. 3.

Anyone wishing to register or having questions can call the school office at 419-468-4010.
