BUCYRUS – The Bucyrus Elementary School hosted its first Leader in Me luncheon of the 2018-2019 school year Friday, Sept. 21. Student leaders were encouraged to invite a family member or close family friend for this luncheon.

“It’s important for us to share our leadership work with our families,” Staff Lighthouse Team member Kim Haldeman said. “The Leader in Me initiative encourages family learning about the habits and family participation, and this is an ongoing area of growth for BES.”

The entire third grade sang for guests, while a small group of student leaders participated in a building tour and enjoyed lunch and conversation with their guests.

“Third grade students spent time reviewing the 7 Habits and creating placemats and décor for the luncheon,” Haldeman said. “They also practiced their social skills such as shaking hands and making eye contact.”

The Leadership Events Action Team has shifted its focus from planning all the luncheons to encourage more staff and student leadership. Each grade level has assumed responsibility for a luncheon and will have the opportunity to put their special stamp on the event.

“Our third-grade student leaders and staff did a fantastic job preparing for this luncheon,” Elementary Principal Timothy Souder said. “It was wonderful seeing all the family members here, spending time with their students and learning how they can support their student’s leadership growth at home.”
