ASHLAND – The Ashland Symphony Orchestra will present three concerts at Hugo Young Theatre on March 9 and 10 — a school day concert, a children’s concert and an evening performance.

The annual Young People’s Concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 10 is free and open to listeners of all ages, with no tickets required.

The program will introduce the audience to both classical and pops music and highlight the instruments in the orchestra.

Trumpeter Steven Cuzzoli, a senior at Northwestern High School, will be the featured soloist. The symphony will also premier a work by Aleksander Swanger, a junior at Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center.

As part of “M.A.D.E. in Ashland”, Brooke and Bobby Wesner of Neos Dance Theatre will perform Gershwin’s Lullaby.

Preconcert activities, including the Instrument Petting Zoo, begin at 3 p.m.

Sponsors are Sutton Bank and Marybelle Landrum.

The Saturday evening concert, “From Mozart to Gershwin,” will take the audience on an auditory journey through two centuries of music.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m., opening with Elgar’s Introduction & Allegro, op.47 featuring string principals Dianna Joiner and Mary Kettering, violin, Patrick Miller, viola, and Chauncey Aceret, cello; and closes with Beethoven’s Symphony No.8, op.93, F major.

Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante, E-flat major featuring the ASO’s own Andria Hoy, oboe, Thomas Reed, clarinet, Ian Hoy, bassoon, and Margaret Tung, horn; and Gershwin’s Lullaby, with Bobby and Brooke Wesner from Neos Dance Theatre, round out the itinerary.

Tickets are $23 for adults, $20 for seniors and $5 for children and students, and are available from the ASO office, 419-289-5115, or the AU Box Office, 419-289-5125, both located at 331 College Avenue.

The Koerber Family is sponsoring the Mozart soloists.
