WOOSTER — The Ashland boys and Lexington girls bowling teams collected some memorable hardware in Wayne County over the weekend.

The Arrows and Lady Lex won the first ever Ohio Cardinal Conference team bowling championships Saturday at Wayne Lanes.

“It was a historic day for the OCC,” commissioner Ron Dessecker said. “Congratulations to both schools.”

The Arrows won the boys team title with a total of 4,212. Wooster (4,017) was second, followed by Lexington (3,852) and Mansfield Senior (2,923).

Ashland sophomore Haven Leiter was the OCC boys Bowler of the Year after rolling a 668 series.

Ashland juniors Jonathan Caughtery and Kage Bartman were selected to the OCC first team. They were joined by Lexington freshman Chayse Whitesel and Wooster juniors Justin Huffman and Garrett Fleming.

On the girls side, Lady Lex claimed the team title with a total of 3,931. Ashland (3,703) was second, followed by Wooster (3,676) and Mansfield Senior (2,255).

Wooster junior Allie Leiendecker was the OCC girls Bowler of the Year.

Lady Lex senior Shealyn Benton and juniors Brittany Salimbene and Sam Avery were selected to the OCC first team. Ashland junior Sheri Nichols and Wooster senior Alexis Cichello also earned spots on the OCC first team.

Ashland’s Mark Dreibelbis was selected the OCC boys Coach of the Year. Lexington’s Jason Whitesel was the girls Coach of the Year.
